Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 14, 2026

PixelPurl is an independent project built and maintained by a single developer (“MikeWhob,” “we,” “us”), not a company with a dedicated legal or privacy team. This policy explains, in plain language, what information PixelPurl collects, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to pixel-purl.mikewhob.com and the PixelPurl app.

Information we collect

Account information. To create an account you sign in with Google or with an email address and password, handled by Firebase Authentication (a Google service). Depending on the method you choose, we receive your email address and, if you use Google Sign-In, the name and profile photo associated with your Google account. We never see or store your password — Firebase handles that directly.

Content you create. Motifs, Projects, palette colors, yarn labels (brand/line/colorway, if you choose to enter them), gauge settings, tags, and thumbnails you create in the app are stored in our database (Firestore, also a Google/Firebase service) under your account.

Public profile information. If you claim a public handle, your handle, display name, and profile photo become visible to anyone who visits your public profile page, and are shown alongside any Motifs or Projects you mark public.

Technical information. Our hosting and infrastructure providers (Google Cloud / Firebase) automatically log standard technical data — things like IP address, browser type, and request timestamps — as a normal part of operating any web service. We don’t access this for any purpose beyond keeping the app running and secure.

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or marketing pixels of any kind, and PixelPurl does not process payments or collect payment information — there’s nothing to buy.

How we use your information

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Public content — read this before you click “Public”

PixelPurl includes a public Gallery and public profile pages by design, so you can share your work and browse what other knitters have made. Anything you mark public — a Motif or a Project — is visible to anyone on the internet, indexable by search engines, and can be cloned (copied) into another user’s own library through the app’s Clone feature. Your handle, display name, and profile photo are shown alongside public work as attribution. If you don’t want something visible to the public, keep it private — the default for everything you create.

Where your data is stored

PixelPurl runs on Google Cloud / Firebase infrastructure. Data may be stored or processed in the United States or other regions where our Firebase project is hosted, regardless of where you access the app from.

Your choices and rights

Children’s privacy

PixelPurl is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

Security

We rely on Firebase Authentication and Firestore’s built-in security rules to protect your account and content, and we scope those rules so only you can read or write your own private data. That said, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. If we make a material change, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use PixelPurl after a change means you accept the updated policy.
